The Associated Press news agency has reportedly been publishing incoming US election results onto the Ethereum and EOS Blockchains.
As poll results keep trickling in from different states and counties, the developer webpage has detailed how to access its AP Elections API results. According to the page, the results have been immutably written to Blockchain by Everipedia’s OraQle software.
A permanent record of results
The immutable addition of trickling-in results on the AP website from state to state, helps build an unhackable and permanent record of election results as announced. The ethereum smart contract address used for the exercise has also been released to the public. Readers can now follow the results through block explorers like Etherscan. People can also follow AP’s EOS account as well for an even clearer collation of election results as they come in.
With over a 100 million ballots cast early either in person or by mail due to COVID-19, people are bracing for a nail-biting last few hours of result tallying. As both the stock market and millions of observers wait to see who will be in the white house for the next four years, corporates have come together to spread a message of calm. The Civic Alliance made up of big social media and payment companies like Twitter, PayPal and Ripple have called for fair and calm handling of the elections.
The call by the likes of Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse came hours before Trump prematurely declared victory a few hours ago. The move by the incumbent has been widely criticized as a false and premature and likely to cause tension a few hours to the conclusion of the process. Regardless of the presidential election result, certain lawsuit claims are expected to be filed and the AP Blockchain based record could come in handy in deciding poll disputes.
