The much-anticipated midterm elections in the United States came and concluded last week with some interesting fresh faces coming to the fore. The mid-terms saw some interesting and progressive wins for minority women with Alexandra Ocasio Cortez becoming the youngest congresswoman at 29, 36-year-old Ilhan Omar becoming the first Somali-American congresswoman, and Sharice Davids becoming the first congresswoman elected to Congress. These important and historic victories came amid big wins as well for the crypto community as three governorship seats were swept by crypto friendly politicians.
Data compiled by the digital asset trade association (DATA) rated the blockchain friendliness of the three newly elected governors very highly, following a survey that was conducted by the Blockchain advocacy group prior to the polls. Unsurprisingly, among the three governors are Colorado’s Jared Polis and California’s Gavin Newsom who have both been vocal supporters of both crypto-currencies and the blockchain. Other crypto and blockchain enthusiasts in Wyoming’s Mark Gordon, as well as Gina Raimondo and Gregg Abbott of Rhode Island and Texas respectively; both won re-elections.
Crypto enthusiasts are particularly delighted with Polis’ victory being a member of the Blockchain caucus in the House of Representatives. Polis has actively called on the United States to take a more proactive approach in integrating and regulating the crypto space. He has openly discussed plans to use the blockchain to institute proper digital voter registration, while also digitizing state records and making them more transparent. A representative of Coin center, Neeraj Agrawal communicated the advocacy’s group delight in Polis’ election while highlighting the important role Polis had played in crafting the Crypto-currency Tax Fairness Act.
The Governor-elect for California, Gavin Newsom, is also a long-time proponent of the Blockchain, stating back in 2014 that he was an admirer of the technology. The new governor according to Digital asset is open to the introduction of blockchain friendly policies in order to attract developers and investors. Governor Raimondo also supports the introduction of Blockchain friendly policies being also a strong proponent of the technology. Wyoming’s Governor-elect Mark Gordon is probably the most pro-crypto of all mentioned as he has plans to push for the exemption of crypto-related businesses from state money transmitter regulations as well as exempting crypto purchases from state sale taxes. The crypto community has been buzzing after the election of these pro-crypto politicians. Their election could facilitate a better working environment for the crypto community with the possible passing of pro-crypto laws.
