Crypto Giant Ripple is on the news again, this time for offering support to a Chinese research university. The said university has launched a blockchain research scholarship program according to a Jan 18 press release.
In collaboration with Blockchain payments giant Ripple, the institute of Fintech research at Beijing’s Tsinghua University (THUIFR) has announced the Blockchain Research Scholarship program (BRSP). The program reportedly intends to bring together the best graduate students in the country this year, so that they can study global blockchain regulations, as well as industry development.
The student involved in the new educational program will reportedly also have access to advanced knowledge in the blockchain space, as well as be able to take part in corporate events and visits.
The director of international cooperation and development at THUIFR, Ivy Gao, stressed that the Blockchain Research Scholarship program will have a great impact to future research in the space as well as future student careers in the Blockchain space.
Blockchain payments giant Ripple acknowledged its involvement in the program through the company’s Global Ops and partnership department head, Emi Yoshikawa. Who stated that Ripple “excited to work with Tsinghua University Institute for Fintech Research and help develop the next generation talent for blockchain in China!”
Ripple has been making partnerships with top universities through its Blockchain Research initiative, in a bid to support education in the blockchain and crypto space. Ripple first announced its involvement in Blockchain Technology Research Scholarship program (BRSP) in June last year, reporting that it had put down an outlay of $50 million inorder to support Blockchain education at 17 Universities globally.
It’s not hard to tell why Tsinghua University was an attraction in the eyes of Blockchain payments firm Ripple, especially being that they belong to the C9 league. The C9 league refers to China’s 9 most prestigious Universities. The university also had a solid Blockchain foundation prior to the deal with Ripple, having previously partnered with a Chinese institutional financial firm to establish a Blockchain Research center in the school.
Universities have proven to be great incubators for some of the most innovative Blockchain startups imaginable. Just recently, a group of researchers from top American Universities launched “Unit-e”, a new crypto-currency which will aim to provide a globally scalable decentralized payments network.
