The US Army is seeking Blockchain experts who can track Bitcoin in real time according to a pre-solicitation notice by the United States army contracting command (ACC) of New Jersey.
According to the ACC, the cryptocurrency analytics report is being sought for use by the U.S Army criminal investigation commission command (USACIDC) for use in criminal investigations and other uses. The notice for provision is clear that the solutions provider must provide a cloud-based, online service- not reliant on software or hardware- in order to assist law enforcement in identifying and pursuing actors using cryptocurrencies for illegal practices such as money laundering, fraud, and extortion.
The notice also states that the service provider to be contracted by the US army must be able to provide the source of the crypto transactions, and also the capacity to offer multi-cryptocurrency analysis from Bitcoin (BTC) to other major cryptocurrencies. Other deliverables include “real-time Bitcoin and other cryptocurrency transaction tracing,” which must include service attribution and identification, as well as being able to identify transaction patterns and interactions with other entities.
The U.S government seems to be taking a major interest in crypto technology. A diar report from last year had revealed that the U.S government had stepped up their investment in Blockchain intelligence triple fold that year. The vast majority of U.S Blockchain government intelligence deals last year were contracted to Chainalysis- a New York based Blockchain analytics firm which had by then penned deals with the US government worth up to $5.3 million.
This year the U.S Air Force has secured new Blockchain agreements with smart contract startup Simba chain as well as with Constellation, a Blockchain data management firm. The U.S Air Force intends to use Blockchain technology thanks to these two firms for supply chain and data management. The US military was also mentioned with relation to cryptocurrency, after award-winning music artist turned investor Akon, who is also a known Crypto advocate said that the value of Fiat currencies such as the U.S dollar was only being sustained by military might.
