You Didn’t Know That CZ Binance Declined a Massive $40 Million Corny ‘Investment Offer’ From Sam Bankman-Fried

There are many things people don’t know about the relationship between CZ Binance and Sam Bankman-Fried. So, Michael Lewis’ book “Going Infinite” provides an explanation for many mysteries between these two. One of them was a corny business deal from SBF. 

CZ Binance Declined $40 Million Offer From Sam Bankman-Fried 

• There’s one mystery the crypto community doesn’t know about: CZ Binance and Sam Bankman-Fried. So, the major perception people have of the two is that they are competitors in the crypto industry. However, there was a time when the two were close to becoming business partners. So, how did this happen? 
• Michael Lewis’ book “Going Infinite” was the source providing this information regarding CZ Binance and SBF. So, Changpeng Zhao rejected an offer in March 2019 from former FTX CEO Sam Bankman-Fried to invest $40 million. What was the purpose of this offer? Well, SBF wanted Zhao and himself to create a crypto futures trading exchange. 
• Remember that when Binance went live in 2019, it was initially a spot crypto exchange. However, there was a decision to integrate futures trading into the exchange. So, they didn’t want the offer from SBF. They wanted to create their own futures trading platform internally. So, CZ Binance rejecting this offer was one of the things that led to the creation of FTX in May 2019.  

What made CZ Binance Reject this Offer?

• There was a reason CZ Binance didn’t consider the proposal from Sam Bankman-Fried. SBF wanted to create a crypto exchange. However, he didn’t know how to go about it. So, in 2018, he started CryptonBTC, a bitcoin exchange, which doesn’t have any clear roadmap. In the long run, SBF decided to offer a futures platform for existing crypto exchanges. So, what this means is that they will create the technology while the exchange brings in customers. 
• CZ Binance didn’t like this model of operations. So, this was because a single unfavorable trade could lead to a complete loss of collateral. The major problem here is that only the exchange will be responsible for the loss. 

What was Sam Bankman-Fried and Changpeng Zhao’s Relationship Before FTX? 

• Before the creation of FTX, there was some sort of relationship between Sam Bankman-Fried and Changpeng Zhao. So, the two met each other in 2018, and SBF offered to sponsor the Binance conference the following year. 
• Sam Bankman-Fried spent around $150k to sponsor this conference. Nevertheless, the two never became friends despite appearing on stage together at this conference. Furthermore, the decision-making process between the two was quite different. 

Conclusion 

Sam Bankman-Fried and CZ Binance almost became close business associates at one point in their lives. So, this was between 2018 and 2019 when SBF offered a whopping $40 million to Changpeng Zhao for a business deal. Nevertheless, Zhao didn’t like the deal.
