With the rise of cryptocurrency this year, we analyzed to check which country in the world was searching for the word ‘Bitcoin’ highest on Google. We all often come to the conclusion that it may be United States, Japan, India or China. Not this time but surprisingly these are the countries least likely to be expected but as per Google Trends below is the list.
- South Africa 100
- Slovenia 100
- Nigeria 90
- Australia 83
- Ghana 82
Why these countries might be on the top 5 ? Its possible that majority of these countries except Australia are looking for a new system since their local economy is not doing that great or they may not even have a currency of their own. As per Bloomberg countries like Zimbabwe do not have their own currency and are trying way to help themselves since the local government has put their people down.
The true benefit of cryptocurrency is not just about getting rich like most of the media portrays in the developed world however it has a big component which can help the under developing nations where the currency doesn’t even exist and floating on US dollars. It also will help nations where the governments have let its people down and the only hope for such people will be cryptocurrency. Hence we may not be surprised to see this trend wherever there is internet connectivity.

By analyzing the trends of various countries there was a common denominator how the trend occurred. The sudden demand started only after October however the peak searches only started after November 2017. This is in line with the new peak of Bitcoin prices which sky rocketed to 20,000$ per bitcoin.
With the current upswing in Bitcoin prices, it will be interesting to see how 2018 will unfold. If the bitcoin prices skyrockets as expected by some of the major personalities in crypto community the search trends may increase exponentially.
