- Fabian Vogelsteller, the developer behind Ethereum’s ERC-20 and ERC-725 token standards, introduces LUKSO, a new blockchain project specifically designed for creative professionals.
- LUKSO aims to simplify user experience and improve accessibility, featuring a universal profile to manage various on-chain activities and multiple keys for different levels of permission.
Introducing LUKSO: A Blockchain for the Creative Economy
Fabian Vogelsteller, a significant figure in Ethereum’s development and the mastermind behind ERC-20 and ERC-725 token standards, has unveiled his latest project – LUKSO. This innovative layer-1 blockchain is designed to establish a comprehensive ecosystem for creative professionals, offering a complete toolset, marketplace, and environment centered around NFTs, all based on a universal profile.
Building on Ethereum’s Success
Vogelsteller left the Ethereum Foundation in 2018 to focus on LUKSO, which is now preparing for launch. In an interview with CoinDesk, he explained that one of the project’s primary objectives is to enhance the standards he proposed during his time at Ethereum. By creating a new blockchain tailored to the creative economy, LUKSO aims to compete with the vast Ethereum network.
Improving User Experience with Universal Profiles
Vogelsteller believes that Ethereum’s user experience is not as straightforward as needed for widespread adoption. For most people, it is challenging to track on-chain transactions or identify which address belongs to a specific wallet. To address this issue, LUKSO introduces the concept of a universal profile – an all-in-one solution that contains all the necessary on-chain activity information.
A universal profile is more than just a wallet; it includes a name, a picture, and can be managed by multiple devices with various keys, each having different permission levels. This feature enables users to have greater control over their on-chain accounts while making the overall experience more seamless.
Innovative Key Management System
LUKSO’s universal profiles come with advanced “key managers” that allow users to add multiple keys to their on-chain accounts. These keys can be assigned to perform different actions or execute specific tasks. The key manager ensures that each key serves its designated purpose, limiting certain activities on specific devices as needed. Additionally, multiple keys can act as a backup system in case a user loses access to one of their keys.
The Potential of Creative Applications on Blockchain
Vogelsteller sees the massive popularity of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) as evidence of the potential for creative applications on blockchain technology. However, he acknowledges that existing systems are difficult to use and have not yet reached maturity. With LUKSO, Vogelsteller aims to redefine the direction of blockchain technology to better cater to creative industries.
Launching LUKSO’s Mainnet
LUKSO will use Ethereum as a sort of on-ramp, with a Genesis Validator Deposit Smart Contract going live on the Ethereum blockchain in a few weeks. Validators will have time to join LUKSO, and users can become genesis validators by depositing an ERC-20 token called LYXe, which was initially launched in an ICO in June 2020. Upon the mainnet’s launch, LYXe will be converted to LYX, LUKSO’s native token.
A Promising Future for Creatives
LUKSO’s blockchain technology, based on Ethereum’s Proof of Stake (PoS) technology, offers an innovative solution to streamline user experience and enhance accessibility for creative professionals. By combining a user-friendly platform with a comprehensive ecosystem centered around NFTs, LUKSO has the potential to revolutionize the creative economy and establish itself as a leading blockchain for artists and creatives.
