In an NPR interview on December the 12th, Congressman Warren Davidson from Ohio state suggested raising money to “build that wall” on the border with Mexico using the Blockchain.
Davidson, a known crypto-enthusiast who has participated in various crypto projects, spoke on NPR’s morning edition with host Steve Inskeep and addressed president Trump’s recent threat to shut down the government if Congress does not finance a border wall.
Davidson believes that he has offered a sound compromise in the shape and form of his initiative which is dubbed, “the buy a brick, build a wall” initiative. This initiative will accept public donations as it seeks to finance the building of the wall.
Davidson said; “You could do it with a sort of, like, crowd-funding site. Or you could even do a blockchain, and you could have wall coins. But you could raise the money. And frankly, if we get it right at the Treasury, you could even accept Mexican pesos.”
Davidson, who is well known for pushing crypto legislation, did not specify whether he had presented this idea in an official capacity as yet. The congressman who is a staunch supporter of ICOs has been planning to introduce a bill that allows ICOs to sidestep the country’s securities law.
He had also hosted a crypto roundtable this fall, attended by 45 reps from major Wall Street firms and a number of crypto entrepreneurs. The roundtable discussion was aimed at discussing things to do with crypto and its regulation.
Davidson most recently announced plans to introduce a draft bill that would offer clarity as to the regulation of crypto-currencies and ICO’s. Among a host of things, the bill will recommend the creation of an asset class for cryptos and digital assets which would prevent them from being classified as securities.
The congressman is a true representation of the state of Ohio’s perception of crypto-currency after Ohio had earlier become the first state to accept tax payments in Bitcoin from businesses. Plans to accept crypto tax payments from individuals are reportedly underway.
