Peer to peer company, Bittorrent has released its own downloads optimization software, BitTorrent Speed, with native functionality. Bittorrent’s latest move was revealed in an official press release published on July 8
As had been reported by a popular crypto publication at the start of the year, Bittorrent launched a native TRON Blockchain based token, Bittorrent at the start of the year which was made based on the TRON protocol. The token was released in order to optimize and improve their network to the point where users can enjoy great network speed and effect faster downloads.
As per the latest press release, the Bittorrent speed software will now be integrated into all new downloads of the company’s uTorrent classic windows client. According to the Bittorrent site, users will be rewarded with BTT in exchange for banding and seeding. The way this will work is users will earn more tokens, the longer they seed files and will attain faster downloads the more BTT they are willing to spend. The company has followed up this latest release with an integrated wallet designed to enable users to manage their token earnings.
As of now, the product remains limited to windows systems only with apparent plans to extend coverage in future. Tron which acquired Bittorrent in July 2018 for undisclosed amount has been working to integrate the two decentralized networks through Bittorrent’s peer to peer sharing technology standard whose ancestor was launched back in 2004.
According to the press release, Bittorrent’s suite of products which include Bittorrent and utorrent clients, underpin the “largest decentralized P2P network in the world” with a purported 100 million and counting active users and installations across 1 billion devices. This accounts for 22% of upstream and 3% of downstream traffic globally. At press time, Tron was trading in the region of $0.034, and was ranked as the 10th largest coin by market cap. Bittorrent on the other hand which is ranked 36th by market cap slid further down, trading in the region of 0.001.
This press release is a great follow up to the one in January which revealed that BTT was part of a bigger plan, which is to create a decentralized content distribution platform using cryptocurrency. This is great news since it is going to foster more use cases for cryptocurrency, and expose virtual currencies to more people in the global financial scene
