A new Blockchain voting system is desperately needed according Binance CEO CZ and Ethereum CEO Vitalik Buterin. According to these two crypto bigwigs the democratic electoral process in the US needs a Blockchain solution.
The need to cut final tally time
Responding to prolonged uncertainty over the election results in this year’s election, CZ tweeted that situations such as this should move developers to build “a blockchain based mobile voting app.” CZ was of the opinion that a blockchain based voting system would help cut the time taken to deliver poll results.
“Develop something now, get it approved (obviously hardest step), and get 300 million plus (fully KYC’ed) users in 4 years’ time. Any capable developer should be willing to do it ‘for free’.”
Ethereum’s Vitalik Buterin shared the CZ tweet and remarked that it would a tough task but it was the right direction to go.
“The technical challenges with making a secure cryptographic voting system are significant (and often underestimated), but IMO this is directionally 100% correct.”
Vitalik clarified that whatever new system got developed didn’t need to be necessarily a Blockchain one but one that had incorporated cryptography. He also tweeted that beating the current voting process accuracy could be easily done.
Other Crypto leaders agree
The assertions made by CZ and Buterin are backed by previous utterances by Cardano’s Charles Hoskinson. Hoskinson is a firm believer in the viability of Blockchain voting and suggested last week that his firm has been building the infrastructure needed to make that possible. Another top CEO in Overstock’s Jonathan Johnson is also behind the idea of a digital voting system claiming that voting app, Voatz, by Medici Ventures could have helped in the current election.
As things stand by the time of writing, democratic challenger Joe Biden seems to edging incumbent Donald Trump in an election that has been marred by allegations of fraud. It is widely expected that the Supreme Court is going to be in for a few busy days, as complaints are brought to its attention. It is the opinion of some that Blockchain could help settle such scenarios in the future.
