Bosch, an electronic manufacturing giant has partnered with IOTA in a bid to integrate its new data collection internet of things (IoT) device with the decentralized IOTA Data Marketplace. This is according to a tweet made by a Bosch representative on November the 12th. The IOTA marketplace is a data marketplace where various interested parties can buy and sell access to active data streams with the use of Masked Authenticated messaging (MAM). A post on the Bosch blog explained that MAM was a second layer data communication protocol allowing for peer to peer data sharing in a secure way, via an encrypted channel.
This means that data subscribers can, therefore, trust the source and integrity of data even though the identity of the source may be masked. Bosch’s new connectivity device, Bosch XDX (Cross-domain kit) is described as a programmable sensor device and an internet of things prototyping platform which will also function as a sensor node solution. The newly launched device will reportedly combine various network technologies, data storage, as well as sensor technologies so that users with varying levels of programming experience can collect real-time data and sell it in the IOTA marketplace.
Bosch indicated that there had been no such open source code before which would be accessible for developers to make a connection between Bosch XDX and the IOTA protocol, which has been dubbed the IOTA “Tangle”. The Tangle is not of the same architecture as the blockchain, it does not use blocks nor has it any use for mining. It is built on a directed acyclic graph (DAG) which is topologically ordered in a way that different types of transactions run on different network chains simultaneously. The “XDK2MAM” team has therefore made the open source code available to the IOTA community in order to facilitate interaction between the hardware and Tangle.
The IOTA foundation has been making big moves over the last several months. Back in June, they came together with German carmaker Volkswagen to demonstrate a POC that uses IOTA’S Tangle system to transfer software updates “over the air” as part of the car manufacturers new “connected car” systems. Two months later Japanese ICT giant Fujitsu announced the adoption of an IOTA based proof of concept (POC) to boost audit trailing in the manufacturing industry. Just last week the IOTA foundation announced that it would be integrating its token “MIOTA” with ledger’s hardware crypto wallets. The IOTA foundation is indeed ushering in the world of (IoT)
