The world’s most popular internet search engine, Google which boasts over 3.5 billion daily searches and more than 1 trillion searches per year, is methodically introducing more crypto elements to its tools ecosystem.
Google appears to be coming up with a new way to display more cryptos whenever a search for a specific coin is done. This new display is designed to increase the exposure of the said coin, giving the user more detailed information.
In the screen shot below, you see an XRP search resulting in a full crypto display bar right below the search and above top stories. Each graphic card on the bar displays a related search term for XRP including Ripple, Cardano, Litecoin, Bitcoin, IOTA, Stellar, Dogecoin, and Ethereum.
This new interface appears to be in its testing phase though, since a more current search for either; Bitcoin, XRP, and Ethereum, will land you into a standard page that does not include the crypto search bar we saw earlier.
Google has not stopped there. They have also integrated four crypto-currencies into their currency conversion tool. This supports Bitcoin, Ether, Litecoin, Bitcoin cash, and Litecoin among numerous fiat currencies. If this is not a sign of Google co-signing crypto’s mainstream adoption, I don’t know what is.
Another sign of crypto adoption and mainstream support is in the way of the Google keyboard tool. Google have added the iconic Bitcoin symbol on the IOS keyboard. One can only wonder what next? Bitcoin emojis? It’s not a stretch.
Google has also been combining big data and search algorithms to crawl large blockchains such as Bitcoin and Ethereum which has served to make data publicly available. This data is immensely useful in making business decisions.
In Ethereum’s case, it’s possible to synchronize the Ethereum blockchain to computers running parity in Google Cloud and perform a daily extraction of data from the ethereum blockchain which will include smart contract transactions.
Allen day, a senior developer advocate for Google cloud is reportedly working on a project known as Blockchain ETL, according to a report from The Block. Blockchain ETL- with ETL standing for extract, transform, and load- allows searches of entire blockchains. In addition to Bitcoin and Ethereum, Day’s team will also be adding cryptos such as litecoin, Zcash, Bitcoin cash, Dash, Ethereum classic, and Dogecoin, to Google’s BigQuery.
Google’s current activities around the blockchain are no surprise as more big league firms and entities circle their wagons around crypto. This works to further drown the notion that cryptos are nothing but a passing fad, and strengthen the notion that cryptos are here to stay.
