An advisory group has been created by the government of Gibraltar in collaboration with the University of Gibraltar. The university is focused on the development of blockchain related educational courses according to the Gibraltar Chronicle. The NTIE group (New technologies in education) is a joint project between the University of Gibraltar and a few technology-based firms in that country. The country has re recently seen a lot of technological advancements stressing the importance of the NTIE group. The group will address rising issues in the technological space both in the private and public sector. The University of Gibraltar will launch courses that will be heavily backed by industry players who will also add their voice to the intricacies of the course
The Gibraltar financial services commission is on the verge of recognizing a lot of players in the crypto space in the country. The Queen’s counsel and minister in charge of the University of Gibraltar, Gilbert Licudi stated that “Providing access to innovative courses with expert input from those using this technology in the private sector is a vital component in the development of a sustainable distributed ledger technology (DLT) commercial community in Gibraltar,” the minister clearly recognizes the importance of education as a first step towards the adoption of distributed ledger technologies.
As part of the project, the University of Gibraltar will develop and promote people with expertise in various technologies. The University of will also develop competencies in coding, DLT, and smart contracts. Eventually, the institution will issue a professional certificate of competence within relevant technology areas. The University of Gibraltar will be mentioned among the very few universities in the world who offer courses in an area relating to the blockchain. According to a statement by the country’s minister for education John Cortes, only 18 universities around the world offer such courses. The subject of the blockchain is most popular in the United States according to Coinbase study with only 5 out of the 18 previously mentioned universities being from outside the united states. The New York University (NYU), became the first in the united states to offer students a major in blockchain technology. The course has been met with a lot of interest with the university doubling its intake this school year. Clearly, institutions of higher learning are beginning to catch up on matters relating to the blockchain.
