The current US general election has seen a crypto holder and enthusiast clinch a senatorial seat. Republican congresswoman elect Cynthia Lummis beat democrat Merav Ben-David in a hotly contested Wyoming race.
An Early Crypto Enthusiast
According to a Nov. 4 report from Fortune, Lummis was among a minority of people who got into crypto quite early following a tip from her son in law. Cynthia is not someone who just holds crypto or has heard about it, she actually understands and supports the philosophy behind it. “Cynthia believes in the philosophy behind Bitcoin, not just that it is a new asset class,” said the report.
Wyoming’s Pro-crypto Record
Lummis is going to the senate to speak for a state that has been very open to crypto institutions. Wyoming granted crypto exchange Kraken its first charter to act as a bank in its jurisdiction and later granted Avanti approval to launch a crypto friendly bank.
Just a day before the general election, the University of Wyoming had declared plans of launching a Center for Blockchain and Digital Innovation. The center will see more students get the opportunity to study cryptocurrency and Blockchain technology. The republican senator could likely help create some pro-crypto rails in the state during her term and that excites crypto enthusiasts in her state.
Joins a Minority of Congressional Crypto Holders
The congresswoman is going to be one of the few people in the senate that holds crypto. She joins the likes of Florida congressman Darren Soto who is a huge enthusiast and proponent of crypto. As vote counting continues in battleground states at the time of writing, we could see some more crypto enthusiasts join the corridors of power and help build the infrastructure needed to make the sector a success.
