Circle Introduces Bridged USDC Standard
- Circle introduces the Bridged USDC Standard, to streamline the process of deploying its stablecoin on a new network.
- This new standard makes it easier for users to use USDC on any blockchain.
- The new standard allows anyone to create a new version of USDC on a new blockchain without waiting for Circle to approve it. This works by locking the corresponding USDC on one blockchain and creating an equal amount on the new network. A smart contract enforces the rules and security.
- Bridged USDC is not issued or redeemable by Circle, but it serves as a proxy to USDC that’s extensible to any ecosystem where bridging is possible.
- Circle’s new USDC bridge standard helps save time and transaction fees by eliminating swaps when transferring to a new network. This could make USDC a universal digital currency.
