Artwork represented by a non-fungible (NFT) token has sold for a record-breaking amount of $6.6 million in the ether cryptocurrency.
As indicated by a tweet from NFT marketplace center Nifty Gateway on Thursday, “history has just been made” with the biggest sale of the animated artwork made by the digital craftsman Beeple.
It portrays what seems, by all accounts, to be a stupendous Donald Trump lying face down in the grass and canvassed in spray painting.
The deal was expedited by Nifty’s art purchasing services, as indicated by the platform, which said that the purchaser wished to stay anonymous. Nifty was obtained by the Winklevoss siblings’ cryptocurrency exchange Gemini in 2019.
The NFT art work movement has been consistently developing and has seen buyers, who are associated with artists by means of online market places like Nifty Gateway, Larva Labs and Open Sea, grabbing up digital artworks at progressively high costs.
According to Nifty Gateways co-founder Griffin Cock Foster, “NFTs are the future, and this is just a glimpse of that … there is no ceiling on what a piece of art can be worth.”
Mike Winkelmann, otherwise known as Beeple, is a graphics designer from Charleston, S. C., who makes an assortment of digital art pieces as well as short movies and recordings.
He has also worked on concert visuals for entertainers such as Justin Bieber, Katy Perry and Eminem, as indicated by his profile on social media platform Behance.
