The dash movement is growing fast with KFC Venezuela announcing that they will be accepting payments using the crypto-currency. KFC Venezuela joins a growing list of fast food joints that are warm to crypto. Some of the other fast food joints include; papa johns and subway.
KFC will begin its initial rollout at its store in the Venezuelan capital of Caracas, before expanding to stores in the other 24 locations in Venezuela. Alejandro Echeverria, the co-founder of Dash merchant Venezuela and dash text has been engaging KFC for the past three months, to ensure widespread adoption of Dash, in the South American nation.
Echeverria said; The Dash movement is spreading and growing fast in Venezuela,” Echeverria went on to say; “First it was food trucks and small family businesses that started to adopt Dash for payments. Now we’re attracting more established businesses.”
In November 2018, Echeverria launched Dash text, an SMS-based crypto-currency transaction service that doesn’t require a smartphone or the internet. This service is a God sent for poverty ravaged Venezuela where 60 percent of the population does not own a smartphone nor have internet connectivity.
Crypto-currency adoption would particularly suit Venezuela since hyperinflation has already rendered the bolivar, almost worthless.
In light of this, Echevarria hopes that crypto will emerge as a store of value and a common means of payment. His vision is that by the end of 2019, there will be about 10,000 merchants accepting dash payments in the country.
KFC has been one of the merchants at the forefront of pushing for crypto adoption. KFC Canada launched the Bitcoin Bucket at the beginning of this year which allowed customers to buy a bucket of chicken using Bitcoin.
