Crypto adoption looks like a quite foreseeable reality in South Africa and quite soon too. This is after Pundi X labs- a global payments solution- partnered DoshEx providing banking like facilities for unbanked South Africans.
The partnership between Pundi X labs and DoshEX will enable banking access for millions of the country’s population, who have little to no access to banking. This will be done through the provision of Pundi X’s XPASS cards, which will be made available very soon.
The Pundi X XPASS cards will enable the people to purchase various crypto-currencies, while also giving them access to purchase various retail products such as daily household products. The card users will also be able to top up the cards in the various XPOS devices that will be spread out all over the country.
This service has been lauded so much since it will give the banking-like facilities even to users without a banking account, through Pundi X’s blockchain based technology. While announcing its collaboration with South African crypto exchange DoshEX, Pundi X lab’s CEO Zac Cheah said the following about the partnership.
“XPOS is the easy, affordable access point into crypto for mainstream retailers and consumers… Now, an XPASS card loaded with crypto enables ordinary people to embrace the crypto-future, including millions of unbanked South Africans,”
Cheah shared his expectation that the new service would not just draw in admirers and clients among the huge unbanked population, but also among those already familiar with banking and trading services. Cheah’s counterpart from the other side of the deal, DoshEX’s CEO Alex de Bruyn in his part said the partnership was essential.
“It was essential to roll out trusted and proven technology as our objective is to rapidly build South Africa’s first point-of-sale crypto-currency network. This is why we partnered with Pundi X” he said.
South African cities are not the only cities in the world where you can expect the blockchain based technology to be utilized in people’s daily lives. The same will be the reality in some European cities as well. Just a couple of days ago, the city of Kiev was said to be looking at the possibility of using Bitcoin as a means of payment for public transportation.
The collaboration between Pundi X labs and DoshEX is a welcome development, especially in South Africa. Contrary to what some may think, African nations such as South Africa, Nigeria, and Kenya are taking to Bitcoin faster than one would think. This in part, is behind the move such as the one made by Pundi X labs and Dosh EX. These countries may not be vastly trading in Bitcoin, but there is considerable interest in crypto-currency and enough people asking questions.
