The inaugural annual “if only”, Texas hold’em charity poker tournament was hosted by the City of Hope this past Sunday, June 29th, 2018. The city of hope is a cancer and diabetes research and treatment center that takes care of persons afflicted with both cancer and diabetes. To raise much-needed awareness, the tournament was graced by members of some of the most popular American celebrity families with Kim Kardashian West, Kris Jenner, Kendall Jenner and Khloe Kardashian all present at the event. The event was filmed by both the Kardashian and Jenner families and the footage is being lined up to feature in an episode of the popular reality show, Keeping up with the Kardashians which will most likely boost the event.
Other than raising awareness for the people afflicted with cancer and diabetes, the charitable event could also help push Bitcoin further into the mainstream. Kim Kardashian, arguably the most popular member of the Kardashian family received her first Bitcoin given to her by Mathew Roszak, who is a tech entrepreneur and popular virtual currency educator. Popular Socialite Kim Kardashian West, who is wife to hip-hop superstar Kanye West, shared the news on social media. Kim revealed this by updating her Instagram and sharing the news with her 114 million Instagram followers.
While the future of crypto-currency is still up in the air with speculation dominating the news when it comes to crypto, the mere mention of Bitcoin in an episode of Keeping Up With the Kardashians could do wonders for the exposure of Bitcoin. Kim Kardashian is not the first high profile personality to be associated with Bitcoin, Kim Kardashian’s childhood friend, Paris Hilton, had earlier given her endorsement to LydianCoin before the token imploded controversially.
Popular Rapper and music producer, Kanye West, held his tongue on his wife’s Bitcoin story but had earlier thrown his weight behind Bitcoin. Kim Kardashian West’s newly acquired Bitcoin assets may bring about the increased social influence that may see the price of Bitcoin rise up the charts. Generous crypto enthusiast and tech entrepreneur Matthew Roszak also shared the news on social media, by tweeting a picture of Mrs. West holding a wallet. As far as celebrities go, Kim Kardashian is probably one of the biggest names to have come into close contact with Bitcoin. A direct endorsement of Bitcoin by a popular public figure, as opposed to the endorsement of a less heard about Altcoin, is a huge step forward for the crypto community.
The reaction to Matthew Roszak’s tweet where Kim Kardashian was featured holding a physical Bitcoin wallet, exposed just how little most people knew about crypto, with a good number of people thinking that Bitcoin existed in physical form. Despite the stunt by Roszak and Kim, crypto social media users appeared less confident that the celebrity factor would change the fortunes of the crypto-currency. It remains to be seen whether the Kardashian celebrity appeal will help Bitcoin prices.
