- Schroders is bringing an emerging market bond strategy to Solana with Centrifuge.
- Investors will hold tokenized shares in a feeder fund linked to the underlying bond fund.
- The launch is Schroders’ first use of Solana and broadens tokenization beyond cash products.
Schroders is expanding its tokenized investment push by bringing an emerging markets bond strategy to the Solana blockchain with Centrifuge. The Schroders Solana launch marks the asset manager’s first deployment on Solana and introduces a different kind of fixed-income exposure to the onchain market. Instead of holding the underlying bond fund directly, investors will own tokenized shares in a feeder fund whose value tracks the net asset value of the related Schroders strategy. The move also reflects a wider shift in tokenization, as large asset managers move beyond money market products and tokenized Treasuries into more varied real-world asset offerings.
Schroders Solana launch brings bonds onchain
Schroders, the London-based asset manager, said it is working with tokenization specialist Centrifuge to bring its Schroder International Selection Fund Emerging Market Bonds strategy onchain. The firm oversaw $1.1 trillion, or £867.8 billion, in assets under management as of June, according to the company.
The strategy invests in debt issued by governments and companies across emerging economies. Schroders said this gives investors exposure to markets and currencies beyond the U.S. and Europe. The firm also said it has managed emerging markets debt for more than 50 years and has more than 40 investment professionals focused on the asset class.
How Schroders Solana is structured
Centrifuge is providing the infrastructure used to issue and manage the tokenized assets. The platform has more than $750 million in tokenized assets, according to the source material, and is being used here to support Schroders’ onchain fund structure.
Under the setup, SISF is legally a feeder fund with an onchain share class. That feeder fund invests in Schroders’ Emerging Market Bond Fund, while investors hold tokenized shares in the feeder rather than directly in the underlying Schroders fund. Schroders said the share values track the net asset value of the underlying fund.
Schroders Solana expands tokenization beyond cash
The Schroders Solana move highlights how tokenization is spreading beyond the cash-like products that shaped the market’s early growth. Tokenized U.S. Treasuries and money market funds have been popular because they let investors earn yield on cash while moving assets across blockchain networks.
Those products still account for $14 billion of the $39 billion tokenized real-world asset market tracked by RWA.xyz. Centrifuge chief strategy and growth officer Anil Sood said onchain fixed income has mostly centered on cash and short-duration government securities, while emerging markets debt adds a different mix of risk and return tied to borrower credit quality, currency changes and economic conditions.
Schroders Solana follows broader asset manager moves
This is the first time Schroders has deployed a strategy on the Solana blockchain, but it is not the company’s first tokenization effort. In August, Schroders received regulatory approval in Ireland for its first tokenized share class of a U.S. dollar money market fund called Schroders Onchain Active Returns, or SOAR.
Schroders is also part of a broader trend among traditional asset managers. Federated Hermes, which oversees $911 billion in assets, said in October that it plans to issue its first tokenized fund shares in early 2027. New York Life’s asset management arm, which oversees more than $800 billion, has also worked through Centrifuge to bring a high-yield corporate bond strategy onto blockchain infrastructure.
Conclusion
The Schroders Solana launch brings an actively managed emerging markets bond strategy onto blockchain rails through a feeder fund structure supported by Centrifuge. Investors will hold tokenized shares in that feeder fund, with values linked to the net asset value of the underlying Schroders bond strategy. The move marks Schroders’ first use of Solana and adds a new type of fixed-income exposure to a tokenized market that has so far been dominated by Treasuries and money market products. It also places Schroders alongside other large asset managers that are expanding tokenization efforts into a wider set of investment strategies.
